Riva del Garda and Torbole sul Garda

The northern part of the lake has long remained under the rule of the Prince Bishops of Trento and for more than a century was part of the Austrian Tyrol. It 'a very special area, enclosed by high mountains, marked by trenches and fortresses, vines and olive trees.

The archaeological remains of the ancient baths testify to its ancient Roman origin.

Riva is the most elegant town with the largest pedestrian area on Lake Garda. The green mountains seem to fit in its narrow streets, avenues are marked by palms, orange and other evergreen trees and the beaches look like a garden.

Colorful buildings, with arches and pretty windows surround the port, where the Aponale tower gives a beautiful view on the Brenta Dolomites and Lake Garda.

You can enter the old town through the gates of St. Mark, St. Michael and the passage opened in a former church. Two baroque churches of extraordinary wealth will strike your attention.

The fortress surrounded by water welcomes you into its museum, to see the historical-artistic development of the town. 

Riva is alive: international footwear fairs, choir competitions, sailing regattas and the magical Fairy Tale Night take place here.

5 km from the center there is the Varone waterfall hidden in a deep gorge: an impressive jump of 100 meters with changing lights and the roar of the water.

Riva is the ideal starting point for hiking. You can climb up to the Venetian Bastion or to St. Barbara chapel and, those who enjoy free-climbing, can reach the top for a breathtaking view.

Torbole sul Garda

For those who reach lake Garda from Nago, Torbole is a source of great emotion for its scenic beauty. It is located on the mouth of the Sarca river and is surrounded by olive trees and rocks carved by ice. It is worth to take a walk in the glacier park between the "Potholes" to understand the geological peculiarities of this place.

Torbole is a surfer's paradise for the regular breeze blowing from the lake, but in the past its wealth was based on trout breeding. The customs house on the harbour is very pretty and alludes to its former border position.
